This week’s photo is courtesy of my Elinchrom D-Lite strobe set. If you’re interested in learning more about those or studio lighting, check out the studio strobes for beginner series here, here or here.

Click on the image for a larger view. Its specs are: Canon 40D, 24-70 2.8L lens at 70mm, 100 ISO, f14, 1/200 sec.

I’ll be posting more specifics on the photo (diagram, setup shot, etc.) in a series installment.

Usually, I post photos that I feel were interesting or technically proficient or are in any way interesting. I have, however, used the picture to instead tell stories about me and my family. This post, for example, tells a little something about my son.

This week’s says something about my daughter. As you’ll notice in this picture (click for a larger view), I was able to actually score a 200 about a year ago in bowling (I average just over 100, so this was unusual for me).

Over this last weekend, though, we borrowed a Nintendo Wii, which has a bowling game. My young daughter (only 5) was able to beat me EVERY time we played – by at least 40 points! I always considered myself part of the video game generation (I grew up with the original Nintendo and the other classics – which I donated a fair amount of my time to). But, with someone so young beating me when I was really trying, I’ve officially become my kids’ old man! Quite a momentous day.

I went on a hike last week and I was able to get this shot with my G9 right at sundown. I was hoping for some better storminess for a compelling background, but it was a pretty clear night.

I’ve been wanting to do another one of these for a while now. This is a pretty standard multiplicity shot. Multiple frames merged quickly into one. It was shot with my G9. Click on the image for a larger view.

I haven’t done much sports photography – I do, however, really enjoy playing several sports. One of my favorites is Disc Golf.

This shot was taken lying down and looking up as the person is teeing off. If you don’t know what disc golf is, check out the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) web site here.

This week’s image is courtesy of my wife. This is great execution on an idea she’d been tossing around for a while. Naked baby shots aren’t really my thing, but I like how this one turned out. As a great compliment to my wife, she was able to get this frame while only taking about 10 during the shoot – what a great shot!

Also show below is a lighting diagram of the shoot. As applicable, I’ll begin including lighting diagrams with the weekly images. Hopefully, folks will find them helpful.
