Some Weekly News

Some weekly news and posts I came across this week. Canon released a new DSLR and several posts on photography types (IR and Macro) that I haven’t experimentated much with but look like they’re a blast.

  • Biggest suprise was that Canon released another version of its popular XT line, the XSi. I’m a canon shooter and have the XT and 40D. I just checked Canon’s web site and they have it posted. I’m not sure when it came up – I’m suprised it took this long for word to start really getting out. Thanks to DPReview for pulling me into the loop.  The camera looks pretty nice, inherting a lot of features from the 40D, including a 3″ LCD, high-ISO noise reduction, live view, and other cool features like shooting to an SD card and a 12 MP sensor. You can check out the full specs on the XSi here. The Canon site indicates it will be available in April – it doesn’t list a price, but will probably compete in the sub-$1000 market.
  • PhotoProWalk gave a nice overview of how to shoot IR images here. If you didn’t already know, IR is a special type of light and shots of it can look pretty cool. You can check out a bunch on Flickr right here.
  • The Digital Photography School explains several ways to accomplish macro photography, especially on a budget. You can view the article here.
